[Maastricht | 08 juni 2026] Het college heeft het voorstel van de VVD om een pilot te starten met gratis parkeerterreinen aan de rand van het centrum, gericht op langparkeerders zoals in deelbuurt Trichterveld in Mariaberg, afgewezen. Volgens het college past het niet om op bepaalde plekken gratis parkeren aan te bieden, terwijl in en rond het centrum betaald parkeren geldt.
Ook het benutten van bestaande parkeerplaatsen bij de Brouwersweg en bij Xior aan de Tongerseweg voor gratis langparkeren is onmogelijk vanwege regels van de private eigenaren. Het college zegt verder opnieuw met onderwijsinstellingen in gesprek te gaan om overlast door buitenlandse studenten aan te kaarten en studenten te wijzen op de studentenparkeervergunningen waarvoor een geldig DigiD vereist is. Maastricht telt circa 15.000 buitenlandse studenten; slechts 209 van hen hebben een geldige studentenvergunning voor goedkoper parkeren.
Om gevaarlijke situaties en foutparkeren in deelbuurt Trichterveld te beperken, legt het college deze maand parkeervakken aan. Parkeren buiten deze vakken is vanaf dat moment verboden.
[Maastricht | June 8, 2026] The city council has rejected the VVD's proposal to launch a pilot program offering free parking lots on the outskirts of the city center, aimed at long-term parkers, such as in the Trichterveld sub-district in Mariaberg. According to the city council, it is inappropriate to offer free parking in certain areas while paid parking applies in and around the city center.
Furthermore, using existing parking spaces on Brouwersweg and at Xior on Tongerseweg for free long-term parking is impossible due to rules set by the private owners. The city council also states that it will resume discussions with educational institutions to address nuisance caused by international students and to inform students about the student parking permits, which require a valid DigiD. Maastricht has approximately 15,000 international students; only 209 of them have a valid student permit for discounted parking.
To reduce dangerous situations and illegal parking in the Trichterveld neighborhood, the city council is installing parking spaces this month. Parking outside these spaces will be prohibited from that point on.
