Mariaberg krijgt groene speelplek en creatieve ontmoetingsactiviteiten dankzij burgerbegroting

[Maastricht | 06 februari 2026] De uitslag van de 4e Maastrichtse burgerbegroting is bekend: 64 projecten ontvangen dit jaar een bijdrage. Voor de wijk Mariaberg betekent dat concreet twee initiatieven die de leefbaarheid en sociale samenhang versterken.

Speelveld Rozenstraat wordt opnieuw ingericht

Het initiatief 'Wij willen spelen in 't Ruuske' van C. Rondags krijgt een bijdrage binnen het thema Sporten en bewegen. Bewoners en kinderen uit de Rozenstraat en omgeving willen het bestaande grasveld aan de Rozenstraat omvormen tot een veilige speelplek met speeltoestellen. Momenteel wordt het veld veel gebruikt door loslopende honden, wat het spelen voor kinderen belemmert. Met een beschikbaar budget van €20.000,00 moet het veld opnieuw worden ingericht zodat kinderen weer buiten kunnen spelen en buurtbewoners elkaar ontmoeten.

Ontmoetingsavonden en creatieve activiteiten voor moeders

Het project 'The Art of Moms - Verbonden met Kunst' van J.C.J.E.M. Franssen krijgt binnen het thema Kunst en cultuur een bijdrage van €2.200,00. Het plan voorziet in tien ontmoetingsavonden per jaar in Mariaberg waar moeders samenkomen voor gesprekken en creatieve workshops. Daarnaast wordt een kunstroute georganiseerd en is samenwerking gezocht met Trajekt, Vluchtelingenwerk en lokale kunstenaars. Doel is steun te bieden in de opvoeding, zelfvertrouwen te versterken en eenzaamheid tegen te gaan.

Burgerparticipatie en stemmen

Van de in totaal 64 goedgekeurde projecten konden 47 direct worden uitgevoerd binnen de thema’s Kunst en cultuur, Samen sterker, Vergroenen en Sporten en bewegen; hiervoor was geen extra stemronde nodig. Voor het thema Verenigingsleven vond wel een stemronde plaats omdat het beschikbare budget van €181.882,96 niet toereikend was voor alle 20 uitvoerbare projecten; er was €34.040,77 extra nodig. Inwoners brachten tussen 19 en 23 januari digitaal en tijdens het slotevent in Theater aan het Vrijthof in totaal 7.594 stemmen uit (6.727 digitaal en 867 tijdens het event).

Reactie van de gemeente

Wethouder Manon Fokke (Burgerparticipatie) liet weten trots te zijn op de vele inzendingen en de betrokkenheid in de wijken. Volgens haar laat de vierde editie van de burgerbegroting zien dat inwoners actief meedenken over besteding van middelen en dat het geld ten goede komt aan lokale initiatieven.

Tijdpad en uitvoering

Beide projecten voor Mariaberg behoren tot de dit jaar te realiseren initiatieven; de 47 direct uitvoerbare projecten kunnen meteen van start. Bewoners kunnen naar verwachting binnenkort concrete werkzaamheden en programma’s verwachten zodra de uitvoering is ingepland.

Green playground and creative activities thanks to participatory budgeting for Mariaberg neighborhood

[Maastricht | February 6, 2026] The results of the 4th Maastricht participatory budget are in: 64 projects will receive funding this year. For the Mariaberg neighborhood, this means two initiatives that will improve quality of life and social cohesion.

Rozenstraat playground to be redesigned

C. Rondags' initiative ‘Wij willen spelen in 't Ruuske’ (We want to play in 't Ruuske) will receive a contribution under the theme of Sports and Exercise. Residents and children from Rozenstraat and the surrounding area want to transform the existing lawn on Rozenstraat into a safe playground with play equipment. Currently, the field is often used by stray dogs, which prevents children from playing there. With a budget of €20,000.00 available, the field will be redesigned so that children can play outside again and local residents can meet each other.

Social evenings and creative activities for mothers

The project ‘The Art of Moms - Connected through Art’ by J.C.J.E.M. Franssen will receive a contribution of €2,200.00 within the theme of Art and Culture. The plan provides for ten meeting evenings per year in Mariaberg where mothers come together for conversations and creative workshops. In addition, an art route will be organized and cooperation has been sought with Trajekt, Vluchtelingenwerk, and local artists. The aim is to provide support in parenting, strengthen self-confidence, and combat loneliness.

Citizen participation and voting

Of the total of 64 approved projects, 47 could be implemented immediately within the themes of Art and Culture, Stronger Together, Greening, and Sports and Exercise; no additional voting round was required for these. For the theme of Community Life, a voting round did take place because the available budget of €181,882.96 was not sufficient for all 20 feasible projects; an additional €34,040.77 was needed. Between January 19 and 23, residents cast a total of 7,594 votes digitally and during the closing event at Theater aan het Vrijthof (6,727 digitally and 867 during the event).

Response from the municipality

Alderman Manon Fokke (Citizen Participation) said she was proud of the many submissions and the involvement in the neighborhoods. According to her, the fourth edition of the participatory budget shows that residents are actively involved in deciding how funds are spent and that the money benefits local initiatives.

Timeline and implementation

Both projects for Mariaberg are among the initiatives to be realized this year; the 47 projects that can be implemented immediately can start right away. Residents can expect concrete activities and programs to start soon, once the implementation has been planned.
